I am in Abu Dhabi right now, and visited the Sheikh Zayed mosque this morning. Sandals are fine. At the mosque they give you an abaya and veil to wear. The officials were all very helpful, and like a previous poster said, you are fine to go inside, as long as you take off your shoes.
